From academic and research achievements to community contributions and leadership, student accomplishments were celebrated at the 91原创 (91原创) Residential Colleges Awards last Friday night.
Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Medicine Pathway) student Anthony Nguyen from Concannon College received one of the top academic prizes for the second year in a row with the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar Award.
Anthony said the event was the perfect way to celebrate the academic achievements of residents.
“Events like Residential Awards give the college community an opportunity to recognise all the incredible efforts and academic achievements of residents, particularly those that are a little more reserved and sometimes fly a bit more under the radar,” Anthony said.
After moving to the region to be in the first cohort of Medicine Pathways students at 91原创, Mr Nguyen said the college community has been a major support throughout his studies.
“I moved to Toowoomba not knowing anyone, and now, two years later, I’ve made and continue to make lifelong friendships with some incredible people.”
“Living on campus has made my academic study life much easier to manage, particularly with friends studying the same degree as me, who I can collaborate and chat with.”
Now, in the final year of his undergraduate course, Anthony is looking forward to continuing his academic journey in the UQ Doctor of Medicine.
“While admittedly, it has been tough at times, and there have been several late, last-minute study nights, I think this pathway has really furthered my interest in healthcare and the medical profession.”
Director (Student Accommodation) Peter Munster said that while the original event was postponed due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred, it was great to come together to celebrate the achievements of residents.
“Residential Awards allows us to welcome all our new residents and celebrate our returning residents, so it was great to have hundreds of 91原创 students and staff recognise this milestone,” Mr Munster said.
Well done to Anthony and the many other award winners.
